We’re excited to introduce CMYK export in Kittl, helping your designs translate more reliably from screen to print.

Whether you’re creating merchandise, posters, packaging, or stickers, you can now export files that are better prepared for printing — with fewer unexpected color shifts.

Why CMYK matters and what to expect

Designs in Kittl are created in RGB, the color format used for screens — websites, social media, and digital content.

Printing works differently.

Printers use CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) to reproduce colors using ink. When an RGB file is sent to print, it’s automatically converted — and that’s where differences can appear. Read more.

You might notice:

  • less vibrant colors
  • slight shifts in tone
  • differences from what you saw on screen

This is normal.

CMYK export helps reduce these differences by preparing your file for print from the start. However, final results can still vary depending on your printer, paper, and materials.

What’s new and how to use it

You can now export your designs in CMYK color format:

  • PDF — best for print-ready, high-quality outputs
  • JPEG — best for image-based workflows and print-on-demand

We use US Web Coated (SWOP) v2, a widely used print standard compatible with most printers.

There’s no change to how you design — you still work in RGB.

Conversion to CMYK happens automatically at export.

How to export in CMYK:

  1. Open your design
  2. Click Export
  3. Choose PDF or JPEG
  4. Select CMYK
  5. Export your file

Choosing the right format

Different formats are suited for different print workflows:

PDF

Best for professional printing, layouts, and designs with text or multiple elements. Keeps everything sharp and consistent.

JPEG

Best for print-on-demand platforms and simple, image-based uploads like merch designs.

What about PNG?

PNG is commonly used for designs that require transparency (e.g. stickers, apparel, product overlays).

CMYK export for PNG isn’t supported yet. For now:

  • Use RGB PNG for transparency
  • Use CMYK PDF or JPEG for better color control
Tips!

Many print-on-demand platforms convert RGB files automatically, but exporting in CMYK gives you more control over how your colors are translated.

Tips for better print results

  • Export at 300 DPI for high-quality output
  • Avoid extremely bright or neon colors
  • Test print when possible
  • Check gradients and transparency carefully
  • Use strong contrast for important elements
